We here at the Madison West Coast Swing Club (MWCSC) are very excited to have everyone join us for our 30th Anniversary Workshop Weekend! We have the following policies and expectations for our event attendees:
- The MWCSC celebrates diversity and inclusion for people of all backgrounds. We therefore have a zero tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination on the basis of age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, culture, or creed.
- Unwanted physical contact is unacceptable, and consent between dancers is paramount; always respect a “no” without requiring explanation.
- We practice a role-neutral policy that does not restrict leading or following to any demographic.
- It is your responsibility to protect yourself and your partner while dancing on the floor and avoid collisions with other dancers where possible.
- We are all responsible for maintaining the space that the MWCSC is renting for this event. Reckless or damaging behavior will not be tolerated.
- The MWCSC will not be serving alcohol at the 30th Anniversary. Attendees may legally acquire and imbibe at their discretion, but all attendees are expected to avoid reckless intoxication and adhere to local laws surrounding use of controlled substances while at MWCSC events.
- Dancers are expected to avoid bad etiquette while social dancing (arm-yanking, backseat driving, unsolicited teaching, etc.) and practice basic hygiene before joining the floor.
- Please respect dancers of all skill levels; we were all beginners once.
- Please respect the space and time of our professional instructors; they may need breaks from dancing or from socializing and should not be hounded.
If you are aware of any violations to these policies or any other dangerous behavior, please report it to either (1) a safety coordinator, (2) an event coordinator, or (3) a MWCSC board member; if you don’t know who these people are, please talk to one of our desk volunteers and they can direct you appropriately. You can also make an online report at the following link, which our safety coordinators will be periodically checking throughout the event: Good faith reporting is always appreciated and protected.
Thank you and have fun!
