Skills and Drills Lesson Series

Do you feel like there are some things that you need a little more help with before jumping into the next class level? Do you want to refine your skills a little more?

Tactics, Techniques, and Strategies for Leveling Up your West Coast Swing!

This class is focused on working on the underlying fundamental mechanics of West Coast Swing – this is things like connection, using your feet, body awareness, and more. In this series we will not be teaching new patterns or steps, we will be working on and drilling your technical skills that help make all the cool patterns you learn in other series easier to do!

This class is open to everyone who has attended at least one Level 1 Lesson Series class and knows the basic WCS moves like left and right side passes, sugar push, sugar tuck. It is geared primarily to dancers who are getting ready to move from Level 1 into Level 2 as well as Level 2 dancers, but everyone should be working on their techniques regularly to help improve their dance. No need to register with a partner for the class – many drills will be solo drills, and we will rotate partners for partnered drills.

Registration

Location & Parking Information

  • Madison Youth Arts Center (MYArts) 1055 E. Mifflin Street (map — please note building outline is not shown on Google Maps due to it being so new!)
  • The street entrance to MYArts is on the corner of E. Mifflin Street and N. Ingersoll Street.
  • A club volunteer will be stationed at the front desk in the lobby for the first week of class to check-in and direct dancers to the correct room.
  • On-street parking is free, but please check signage for time limitations.
  • There is a parking garage in the building that costs $2/hr and has interior access to MYArts. Access the garage from N. Ingersoll Street.
  • NOTE: Some evenings, particularly in the summer, there are large events (sports and festivals) happening at Breese Stevens Field next to MYArts. Street parking may be difficult, and most parking lots in the area incur higher special-event parking fees.  However, the parking garage attached to MYArts does not offer event parking and is still open to MYArts attendees. There will likely be an attendant at the parking lot entrance turning away Breese Stevens event-goers, but if you tell them you are going to an event in MYArts, they will let you park there.
