Meet new people! Learn a contemporary, expressive dance featuring pop, R&B, blues, and more!

Lesson Series

These weekly lessons build directly on the previous lesson’s content. Admission is priced for a full several-week series of lessons.

These lessons are taught for one hour each week on Wednesdays between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM at Madison Youth Arts downtown. See individual lesson pages for specific dates and which hour block within that time range each series will be taught during.

We currently offer the following lesson series:

  • Level 1 (Beginner) Lesson Series: For new dancers. If you’re new to dancing west coast swing, if you want to brush up on basics, or learn a new role, this is the series for you!
  • Level 2 Lesson Series: For dancers with a little experience. If you’re comfortable with both beginner series’ content and want to take the next step, sign up for level 2!

The following lesson series aren’t currently offered but will return in the future:

  • Level 3 Lesson Series: For dancers with a lot of west coast swing experience. Dive deep into advanced techniques, patterns, and lead/follow skills! If you’re ready to push yourself, sign up for the continuing lesson series.

Pricing & Registration

Prices will increase by $10 one week before the first lesson at noon, and registration is limited to 24 attendees, so don’t delay! Prices below are for an 8 week series, and may be adjusted over time.

  • Non-members: $100. This includes a one-year membership, which entitles you to discounts at all our weekly and monthly dances! (Membership is normally $25, so this price includes a $5 discount)
  • Students: $80. This includes a one-year membership, which entitles you to discounts at all our weekly and monthly dances! (Student ID required upon arrival to the first lesson)
  • Members: $80
  • Student-Members: $75

All registrants must agree to our event liability waiver when purchasing a ticket.

Since these series progress from week to week, no new students may start after the second week.

Prices may be adjusted for future series based on how many dancers attend

Location & Parking Information

  • Madison Youth Arts Center (MYArts) 1055 E. Mifflin Street (map — please note building outline is not shown on Google Maps due to it being so new!)
  • The street entrance to MYArts is on the corner of E. Mifflin Street and N. Ingersoll Street.
  • A club volunteer will be stationed at the front desk in the lobby for the first week of class to check-in and direct dancers to the correct room.
  • On-street parking is free, but please check signage for time limitations.
  • There is a parking garage in the building that costs $2/hr and has interior access to MYArts. Access the garage from N. Ingersoll Street.
  • NOTE: Some evenings, particularly in the summer, there are large events (sports and festivals) happening at Breese Stevens Field next to MYArts. Street parking may be difficult, and most parking lots in the area incur higher special-event parking fees.  However, the parking garage attached to MYArts does not offer event parking and is still open to MYArts attendees. There will likely be an attendant at the parking lot entrance turning away Breese Stevens event-goers, but if you tell them you are going to an event in MYArts, they will let you park there.
