Why Leveling?
The goals of leveling are to:
- Support all MWCSC members from their very first lesson through to reaching their self-determined dance goals — whether or not the member wishes to compete
- Provide opportunities appropriate for members at any point in their dance journey, and allow members to grow at their own pace
- Support instructors in lesson planning, and learners in selecting which lessons they will benefit most from, via setting consistent expectations on the expected skill and knowledge level of attendees
What Level am I?
Below is a simplified version of the rubric we have developed for leveling. For a full version, click here. Note that the concepts outlined in each column are what you are expected to learn during a level in order to move on to the next level — not minimum requirements for that level.
In most cases, members will self-determine their level based on the rubric. Feel free to ask the club president or Sunday Practice instructors if you have questions about determining your level (Currently: Pete, Rae, Anna, Sayeed, and Patrick). If a member signs up for a workshop or lesson series that it seems likely will be too challenging for their successful growth, a board member might reach out to redirect that member towards other opportunities they would benefit from more.

What Level are Lessons & Workshops?
Tuesday pre-social lessons are appropriate for Level 2 dancers and above.
Sunday practice is for dancers Level 3 and up. Level 2 dancers are welcome to attend, but content will be geared to a slightly higher level.
For lessons before the Monthly Dance: the beginner lesson is for those in Beginner, and the pre-dance lesson with our visiting instructors will be geared more for dancers Level 2 and Level 3, though Level 4 dancers are also welcome to attend.
Lesson Series and Special Workshop Events will list what levels they are appropriate for on the event page individually.
Wait, What’s Actually Changing?
Not much will change right away — you can keep going to the same lessons you’ve been going to already.
Going forwards, we plan to start implementing various lesson series which will eventually serve each level. We also will begin offering occasional workshops for dancers Level 2 and up.
